Ok.. Long time no see....

Sorry.

Been a while, has it not.

Can´t say it will get better. Life tends to get in the way. But i´l try.

So why make this post? No idea really. I guess mostly to give my loyal following of Russian crawler bots something to digest. But also to see if i can re-ignite some kind of spark for writing on this blog. But the sad truth is that the current state of reality in my neck of the woods make me want to go all political, and i am not sure i would or even want to deal with the potential backlash... you see i have always picked my fights with brain-dead zealots fairly gingerly. Always been enough shit to get my arse literally and metaphorically handed to me as it is. No need to stick my dick in to a open wall-socket just for shits n giggles. Not my thing. I mean by all means go ahead if that is your thing (the wall-socket part... not the political part... that we all have to deal with at some point or another).

But i digress.

So do i take the plunge and post every-time something tilts me sharply bitchward... Or do i stick to posting the odd geek culture related post if/when the fancy strikes...

I do not know...

Time will tell..

But until next time

Stay safe, be kind and play fair.

bye.

How do you spot a creepy troll... Announce the 13:th Doctor.

So i am going to make this short and sweet...

Most of the people i have seen complaining about the new person playing the Doctor are trolls... They have no agenda or interest in the actual thing. They just like to stir shit up and get a sociopathic rise out of others feeling distress.

Sadly they create a vicious circle of negative reinforcement. Their childish antics radiating way beyond what they them self can even understand.

So don´t feed this little piles of human feces, do not give them anything to react to. If you can, just report them for flame-baiting.

I´l get back to the actual new doctor once i see the new episodes.

But here is my stance....

the GENDER of a fucking time-traveling alien that can live multiple lives by regenerating their body is irrelevant. The representation value that the choice of the new Doctor has is significant.

Go forth and conqueer.

Spider-Man Homecoming - What sort of spider-man movie is it. (spoilers)

Vacation is over badgers... i back.

So...

Sony knew that they had screwed the pooch with Spider-Man. They reached out to Marvel and the Disney Marvel movie dept. Then they begged.

So did it help, was it worth it?

Yes... Yes it did.

Now i like many others think that  the Toby-Man 2 movie was the best Spider-Man movie as far. In my mind this movie trumps that one. Not only does Peter Parker come across like a very teenage... well.. teenager. Now the movie does take another step in blending two comic settings, the core marvel one and the so called Ultimates one. The later was a modern reboot of the marvel universe that instead of messing with the core universe Marvel set it up as it´s own thing. It was a bit more grim and gritty. But without going in to grimdark territory. In this setting Spider-Man was again a teenager (in the core universe he is grown up and sitting in that weird 30-ish zone) and his supporting cast where updated to be more independent. ezpecially Aunt May that went from a kind senior citizen to a much younger (more 45+ than 65+) woman on the move. Much of this does carry over in to the new movie.

It also sidesteps many of the weird issues that have been brought up in previous movies regarding the spider suite and other things . It simply runs on Tony Stark MAGIC.

Now the story it self is fairly basic for a opener in a franchise. The hero has gained the power ( guess what.. not origin story)  and now heeds the call of heroism only to mess up and is forced to find his resolve. Then comic book end happens. =P

But it is the care that has been taken to not only be funny and endearing but also have some serious nods to spider comic history. It also handle it´s villains in a good way. Not the hamfisted Toby-Man 3 or the re-boot who wasted a really good villain for a sequel bait that never came to be.

As for the actors. Tom Holland is the same kind of natural it that RDJ brought to Tony Stark and Well RDJ is as always good... In fact at this point it is hard to see where he ends and Tony starts. RDJ fill a good roll as mentor and also part of the more lighthearted comedy of the movie.

Marisa Tomei and Laura Harrier make for two good supporting characters and both are believable as Aunt May and Liz Allen.

But the star of the show is by far Mr Keaton who threads a thin line between creepy and endearing with just the right amount of chewing the scenery. After all you can not play a comic book villain without a little bit of overacting. Now he does serve as a replacement for the  green goblin in some ways but with a very simple and rooted motivation for his villainy.

All in all it is the Spider-Man that Sony needed and if they are smart they will learn from this and actually continue to produce good super hero movies.

Until next time

Stay safe, be kind and play fair.

Wonder Woman - What the DC movie universe should be.

As per usual i am not going to go in to plot details but it is a movie worth seeing and it is in my mind how DC should make their movies. I do feel sorry for whom ever had to write the script for Justice League trying to do Wonder Woman justice in that movie. Done wrong and and the backlash will be savage.

Anyway the movie does a good job of blending Wonder Womans often changed and rewritten backstory and give it a solid feel. It is not a perfect movie.. what even that means. But it has solid humor and a fairly well-crafted story. Supporting roles are properly supporting and the villain actually have a believable motivation. Even if it is a bit stock.

Visually the movie is stunning and it does a really good job of telling a story through light and set dressing. Same goes for sound design. The movie sounds great. It does pander to the 3D for the sake of 3D but nothing really important would be lost if one was to view it in 2D. Mostly it is a bunch of stuff flying towards the viewer. I lay this solidly at the feet of WB and not the crew who made the movie.

As for the actors. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine bring that timing and chemistry that have been lacking in all the other modern DC movies. You believe them and the journey they take. As for Etta Candy played by Lucy Davis, she brings just the right light and snarky observation needed to ground the start of the movies second act. Would have liked to see a bit more of her tho.

Now it is worth mentioning that this movie have very little connective tissue to the rest of the DC universe, but that was to be expected seeing as it is set during WW1. And since this is not Marvel... No end credit scene for you.

In short. Go see it. It is worth it even if you dislike the rest of the DC offerings. Just remember to not base your decision of watching Justice league on this movie as there is no connection between the production teams. That one will be a Snyder picture.

Until next time

Stay safe, be kind and play fair.

Assigned and Assange

Lately i have had reasons to question if nuclear cleansing (or at least chemical lobotomy) would not be a good solution in regards to humanity, or at least parts of it. The smaller of these things, the dismissal of  charges against Julian Assange as his cockroaching have made it impossible to push any sane and orderly legal action against him. Not unlike a fucking ransomware he got to dictate his own terms. But in doing so i have a solid opinion of his guilt. Not that he cares... But in my eyes he will always be a small man with a James Bond complex (and as such is pretty rapey by default.) and i have no doubt that he committed sexual assault and rape... Perhaps not the assault kind.... But still. I am glad that the circus have come to an end and that no more tax payer crowns will be spent on the fucker. I do wished that he would have been sentenced but a gilded cage is still a cage.  As long as his arse remain locked up he will not be out and about sticking his Jimmy where it does not belong.

Now while Assange is man full of him self.. In the larger scheme he is fairly insignificant. Unlike the inbreed troglodytes who decided to ruin the life of the creator of the Assigned Male comic. This comic depicts the trials and tribulations of being a trans-person in the current world. And manages to put a bit of positivity in it. This ofc rubbed some people the wrong way and a bunch of proclaimed nazi organized a combined hack and dox attack. This.... Is some real fucking bullshit. You can dislike the trans-movement all you want and as long as you keep that to muttering while you hatewank in your chamber... Nobody can´t really do much.. freedom of mind and all that.

But if you bring that in to the real world, getting a fucking terrorist attack going... Because make no fucking mistake... That is what it is... While it may look like a individual to individual attack it is by extent a attack at an entire section of society, not to mention society it self as it denies the freedom of it´s members. Going that far.. is way to far.

So this form of terrorism do a good job of illuminating how far we as a society have to go. Why things like PRIDE and the brave people on the barricades are still needed. And why we (as in men... because as sad as i am to admit.. a lot of the shit posted online comes form people who identify as born male in a male body.) need to deal with the idiotic shit that previous generation have created, it is our legacy and our task to break down. Toxic masculinity, macho culture, homo and trans-phobia and all the other dumb shit way to many still hold as gospel.

Sadly i fear things will get worse before it gets better... That is how it usually goes. Fortunately i still have hope as many of the people who educate your kids... .. . They are on the side of inclusion and tolerance. They get raised right and sane...

How about the Assange use his new freedom to track these sort of networks down. But i somehow get a feeling that he would not, even if he could.

Dr Who..? Season 10 thoughts so far.

To be honest after the last season of Dr Who i did not have much hope. While i did enjoy the Capaldi doctor from time to time i did not feel much investment in Colemans Oswald. Not really Colemans  fault, she did what she could with what she had. It was just a bad character. So i did have some reservations towards the new season. But to my surprise the new companion as Bill Potts played by Pearl Mackie is both funny and a bit of a internet snark... Calling out some of the sci-fi tropes that usually we the audience have to call out. Now i am not sure how the entire season will play out but so far it is looking good. Now there is a second auxiliary character in the form of Nardole played by Matt Lucas. A reoccurring character from the Christmas specials of late.  His role is that of chaperon and conscience to the Doctor. Making sure that the later does not go over the edge. The series does also pay some homage to the complaints over the lack of of a sonic screwdriver.

I will get back to the subject once we are deeper in to the series. But as mentioned. So far so good.

Until next time

Easter... Egg? Gothcon

Brains...?
So Easter have come and gone and for me that most of the time means spending time in Gotheburg attending the Swedish boardgame/miniture/TCCG/RPG convention Gothcon. Now as far as international cons goes this is a small one with around 2000 people (that can be reliably tracked). But as far as this type of conventions goes in the Nordic region it is one of the larger. Beyond that things would feel fairly similar to other cons, you play games, hang out with people you only see once or twice a year and spend money on stuff you probably should not spend money on like... well..more games.

But first and foremost it is the atmosphere that gets me every time. Because no matter how protective and elitist different sub-factions of physical gaming culture can get (and trust me... it can) once you set foot inside the con, you are at home. Around you are people who are as if not more geeky and nerdy as you are and nobody judge you for it. This of course rings true for any sub-culture con but since i am a gamer and i this is my hobby. This is where i call home

So what did i do over these four days? Well apart from having a look at a metric ton of stuff i liked to buy i took the time to sit down with some games i was unable or unlikely to be able to play at home. It was nice to be able to play games and not mind the real world outside. The highlight of the weekend was oddly enough a tiny storytelling RPG. One of those that you pick a random scenario and just roll with it. Ours was a team of the most failed superheroes this side of the Great Lake Avengers. But it is a type of game i really enjoy when i am in the right mode because it lets me flex my storytelling muscles. I think the game it self was called Followers or some such. Anyway getting to sit down with a table of people and together weave a story is something that always have and i hope always will bring warmth to my heart.

Now fortunate enough for me i do not have to wait very long for the next con as we have one coming up in my home town in about a month. expect a more in-depth write up of that one as i can get some decent sleep during that con. The perks of being withing walking distance.

Anyway, that was just a quick update on what i have been up to. For a review of the games i played head over to spelkult.se in the coming week or so.

Until next time

To see your heroes grow old.

I was for many years in my youth a big fan of wrestling. especially the WWE (WWF back then) variety. Now I of course, did grow up in a world where the kayfabe, the masquerade of wrestling being anything beyond a well-rehearsed show had fallen. We all knew the wizard behind the machine. But it was still very interesting and not to mention difficult as heck to get ahold of. Now everyone who watches wrestling does at some point end up with a favourite wrestler. Mine was always Mark Calaway. Better known as "the Undertaker". A beast of a man, a hair short of 210 cm and for most of his career built like a brick house. He was also initially a very mobile wrestler as he was doing high flyer moves in an era of American wrestling where big wrestler tended to be slow power wrestler. As time went by many others would push the game forward. But the Undertaker was also always carried by his other gimmick, he was able to "call upon dark powers" to ignore hits and moves. This did grant him an air of indestructibility that really played into the same power fantasy as superman.

But this was over 20 years ago and as I out of curiosity watched a recap of Wrestlemania 33 that happened this last weekend. The Undertaker headlined the event and every single one of those 20+ years could be seen in his face, his body and how he moved. It was in a way heartbreaking. A part of me really wished that he would have hanged up his boots a lot earlier. Not having to see him go through matches being carried, made to look good by others as his body does not longer have the power to really do that himself.

Now there would be no shame in doing that, the Undertaker have been wrestling for over 25 years. Most athletes retire long before that and many WWE wrestlers work shows every week, sometimes several shows a week. That does take its toll on the body. But for some insane reason Mark Calaway kept on wrestling. While wrestling as a "sport" is fake, the action is as real as any stuntwork and many times more dangerous. It does leave its marks on the body.

So as I watched the end of the match and once it was over I saw the Undertaker slowly remove his gloves, his coat and then finally his hat. His face a mix of sadness and relief. Then Mark Calaway exited the ring but for the first time, the Undertaker stayed. In the ring, a legend laid and walking up the ramp was a 52 year old man. I hope this is the actual retiring of the Undertaker. Not built up with any hype or made a spectacle of. It was quiet and dignified. The proper way to send off someone who have been a hero me and many others.

But it is the end of an era and I do feel a tinge of sadness but at the same time I am glad that Mark Calaway finally is free from the alter ego that was and in many ways still is the Undertaker. But there will never ever be someone as dedicated to his craft as the Undertaker, nor as dedicated to the whole idea of the spectacle of wrestling.

Mass Effect or Mess Affect...?

Oh boy did EA manage to piss people off with the release of Mass Effect Andromeda.

Now my guess is that most people, like me. Had a fairly balanced opinion on the chance that EA would not in some way cock up the next chapter in the most beloved space saga on modern entertainment media. But we do very little in the way of waves on the internet.

No! it is the loud people tossing a fit that get into the media. Now this was fairly meek coming on the heels of the "Jim sterling gave Breath of the wild a 7" tac nuke that had people losing not only their shit but literally try to melt someone with anger. It did also help that people had an actual cause for their anger. The game shipped with some serious issues such as poor animations and a story that need a few hours to get going.

Personally, I was expecting the 4th game to be much like the third. That is not as bad as one might expect. I did like the third game but I also saw the entire game as one long ending chapter.Wrapping up some nice stories and the conclusion to  Mordin Solus arc made the entire series for me. At the point of the third game, I was pretty sure that some serious Deus Ex Machina shit would have to go down. Because there was no other way to solve the whole reaper issue. Now I did not really expect an actual god machine but hey, in the end it does not matter if you see the wizard or just the strings being pulled. The illusion is still broken. So I mostly disregard the last 10-ish minutes of the game and enjoy the ride to get there. I am sure that I will view the fourth entry into the series in the same way but I do get why people are pissed.

Now the game in general is jaw-dropping and I found myself eerily fascinated by the face wrinkle system. And for some weird reasons, I find myself invested in the characters around the Ryders. Time will tell if that is enough to carry the game and if it will be enough of a hit to get proper sequels.

For now Mass Effect Andromeda is a flawed game with potential.

Also why does it always have to be some ancient but now lost civilisation...? It makes sense from a reality perspective but we kinda been there done that.

Until next time, stay safe, be kind and play fair.

Iron Fist. Putty in a silk glove or seriously good? (spoilers)

Did the Marvel/Netflix behemoth do their first bungle?

Well according to the score aggregators. Yes.

But i personally think that is mostly due to the expectations not being met. You see Iron fist is not kung-fu action series, it is in fact not really a kung-fu anything... Like most other of the Marvel/Netflix shows it is a personal drama about facing great personal adversity. In this specific case, it is a pretty much spot on "fish out of water" story about how someone who is basically an emotionally stunted child in a grown man's body with an understanding of the modern world of a 10-year-old.

Now that does not for a good trailer make and I feel that Netflix was feeling a bit like I do about the character... Danny Rand is dry white toast (in the comics usually clad in green and yellow spandex) with the personality of a Weetabix. So they did not really have much to work with. Most of Danny's good stuff comes from bouncing his dry wit off Luke Cage in the comics and his role is most of the time the sage and calm centre. He is of course not at that place in the series... In fact, in the series he is dumb as rocks. But in a way that does make me at least sympathetic towards him. We also need to remember that Matt Murdock carried a pretty big idiot ball in the first season too.

Now the worry i have is how they are going to complete Danny´s journey before the defenders (or more realistically at the start of the Defenders) to give him a role outside of "glowing punch guy". I guess he could have the Tony Stark role for the team. Using his money to solve some of the issues like transport and medicine. But for all intents, acting as the moral and emotional centre of the group. I have a difficult time seeing that.

But the show is solid and while I feel the lack of a solid villain might a bit distracting  It does open up for some serious twists and keep you invested in what will happen. But just stay away from the idea of this being something akin to a Jackie Chan movie.

Because it sure as heck is not.

Until next time.

Stay safe, be kind and play fair.

Logan... My opinions (no spoilers)

Ok to be fair... By no spoilers i mean no more than the trailers have spoiled (actually less) but fair warning is fair.

So now this movie is way more in line with the MCU movies as in it is a story that happen to contain super heroes. It is not really s story about super heroes who does stuff. Now my biggest complaint is that the version we saw had a horrid audio mix but that might be down to the cinema and not the movie. But it was LOUD at times and not a pleasant gut punch loud, no this was a more along the lines of shaking your teeth kind of loud.

Did not detract from the story at large, but worth mentioning.

So on to the movie it self.

There is not much i can say about the plot without going in to spoilers so i will simply say that the story is well written and hit all the notes i would expect from such a story, the only nicks being that it get a bit lazy in the third act. But that might be due to editing, i can see a extended version solving some of those issues. It does also tie in nicely to the two previous movies without winking and nudging so much that you have to watch the, A basic familiarity with the character is enough. All in all it holds together to the end and wraps up in a satisfying way.

Visually it is a stunning movie, the sets look very good, music and soundscape ties things together and the final track in the movie will do you in. Is it the best super hero movie... No not by a long shot, Nor is it even the best Marvel movie in my mind (that is still GotG). but it is with out a doubt the best movie featuring Wolverine in my opinion. The supporting cast is also very solid and i really like the story beats they choose to go with.

Gha... I do not really know what to say... Go and see it, it is worth the price of the ticket.

I will do a more spoilery dissection in a week or so. Because there is much to talk about.

But for now.

Stay safe, be kind and play fair.

Ghost Recon Wildlands... Not Just Cause 3.

So i did participate in the Wildlands open beta this last weekend. The game ran well and apart from the usual issues one get with Ubisofts take on P2P servers. In short.. The solution does not really like stress tests. At all...

Now the game it self is for all intents a more serious (but still as unrealistic) challenger to Just Cause and sadly it falls short. The game has a gorgeous open world and you really feel like you are in a fairly exotic (for a northerner like me) location. The world is open in as so far that you have a big chunk of map to faff about on and a scatter of missions for you to take on in any order you like. In short it is the usual bits and bolts. It is worth to say that the Co-Op functions... When they work.. Are really good and offer a nice group experience.

So the story pretty much boils down to you and your group of ghosts taking down a drug cartel because they beat up a friend of your friend. There is no real grander picture in this, just some seriously black book shit. I am sure it gets deeper at the later point of the game but i would not expect a games version of Schindler's List.

You are given a decent amount of customization of your character, from stern military man to something more akin to Jay and Silent Bob, together with a decent slew of weapons and drive-able vehicles both on land, sea and air. So you will be able to play the game pretty much the way you want... .. . As long as that includes shooting members of a drug cartel... No pacifist option here. Now with that said you can not just engage in some casual genocide... Each shot civilian does count and it can end your game.

Now i did bring up Just Cause before and that is mostly because beyond gun physics the game has a similar wacky and often wonky grasp on how reality works. Cars act like drunk go-carts and the helicopters move like they are drones (most likely because they use the same system for both.) This is not a Battlefield game... Not do i think it strives for it. But in my mind it does the open world worse than Just Cause and if you can stand the silliness of JC3.. Get that and leave this to the crows.

Oh by the way... The banter in this game is... It is something for it self.. The exact stereotypical  military bullshit steeped in hypermasculinity that one would expect from this sort of fantasy. The word cringe did cross my mind at times.

In short.. This is not a bad game but there are better games than this in every category it can enter. But if you want a more serious Just Cause 3 with solid Co-Op. Pick this up.

But i am going to give this a pass.

Back in my day....

So as i was going through my Creative Cloud account to check up on a few things, i stopped and looked at the list of software that i have at my fingertips. For a short moment i think about how my 18 year old self would have felt knowing what toys that lay in his future. Sure we had Dreamweaver and Photoshop back then too. But compared to the things something like Photoshop is today... It was about a step above hacking lines in to stone. But unlike some people who only can see the saturation of a crowded market and a march of technology that slowly leaves them behind i am really glad for this. Not only does it make my life a lot easier as tools get better and become more affordable, but it acts as a equalizer.

You see when i was young... Pretty much the only way to get Photoshop was to pirate the living shit out of it. Why... Cost... The product it self was aimed at a professional market and priced as such. At around 10-15.000 SEK it was not only a pipe dream, it was beyond reality. Me and others did reason that pirating it was a victim less crime. It was not like we took away sales from Adobe since we could not even buy the software even if we pooled together.

Now i like to say that this does not excuse what we did, nor does it actually creates a moral ledge for us to stand on. Now the thing was ofc that outside of Paintshop Pro, Coral Draw and Photoshop there was not much to work with. So we simply did not give a fuck. We where young and brash. Not saying that renting your software from Adobe for a few hundred a month is all that much better. But going by the price of Adobe software in the past the pack i currently have active would run me in the hundred of thousands SEK range, and that is one torture i prefer to have delivered one needle prick at the time.

Anyway... As i said it is a equalizer because today pretty much anyone can get a computer and a software package that let them work with digital art, and pretty much every smartphone have a camera good enough to at least start out as a photographer och video photographer. The gatekeepers are fading away and that in my mind is a good thing. Sure it is getting harder to stand out and it becomes much more about marketing your self and creating a brand. But at least you do not have to work with stone age tools or steal to get going. Heck you do not even have to bow down to the likes of Adobe, Free software like GIMP and the fairly cheap Clip Studio paint offer really good places to start with digital art and for video and audio there is a plethora of tools.

I look forward to see what the future holds and i wish the kids of today the best of luck as they try their own wings creating the most amazing things.

Not particularly much meat in this post, but what is a personal blog worth if one can not indulge in the fancy of thought every now and then.

Until next time

Stay safe, be kind and play fair.

Bye.

The working gamers dilemma.

So i was thinking about what to put my limited gaming time budget in to. While i now have the funds to get the games i want (not all at the same time.. but you know.) and also have a computer that can play them i have been putting some serious thinking time in to what game to get. While i still tend to put in a match or a few of OverWatch and i keep a subscription to WoW running for my own amusement.

But beyond that i am for all intents undecided. With the current Humble monthly offering Total War:Warhammer for a really good price. But it eats a lot of time and i am not sure i have what it takes to actually enjoy the game. Heck if i can not find time to sit down with the sims... Total War i think is a bit outside of my league. That is what i really like with Overwatch, casually playing quick matches demands no time from me. Just pop in... bang bang.. shut down.

But looking forward there is of course the next Mass Effect game, i have played through the original trilogy and i am looking forward to this one. But again.. time. It is a must play for me so time will have to be made i guess.

Beyond that it is mostly "older" games, as in games that have been released in the past year or so that simply kicked the arse of my old computer. I have been doing some the Division as i really enjoy the SP part of the game, shallow and not very complex as it is. This does lean me towards looking to pick up Watchdogs2 and while even older still i am really thinking about getting the final installment of the Witcher series again.. solid stuff.

and still i come back to the same old chestnut... time.

It is that old catch 22 like position that you only have the money to play games when you do not have the time... and vice versa. But since i can not live of casually playing the games i want to play... Heck even if i would make a career of Youtube would i have the time to play the games i like to play. That would also in way be to taint the well, as i would be making my poison of choice my job. Not sure how well that would turn out.

But that is i guess what getting older is, the dividing of time and resources. In that way life becomes a most harsh
resource management game. One without save files or resets.

But that is what it is.

Until next time
stay safe, be kind and play fair.

Capaldi done with Dr Who. My take.

So i missed posting last week. Sorry about that.

But that is in the past and unless you have pocketed a TARDIS, we can not change that... Speaking of that. The TARDIS that is.

My sort of favourite doctor (no that is not doctor Cox.. even if he is a close second.) Peter Capaldi is going to regenerate his posterior out of Dr Who. While i can understand him, he will be missed. Now i was not that big of a fan to begin with. He felt a bit forced and overly abrasive. But over time i grew to like his manners in the role and how he portrayed a post silence and the end doctor. A person who have seen some shit and perhaps just have grown a tiny bit tired of the role as the maid to the entire time and space. In fact it feels like his doctor was the one to break the most rules and mess up the most.

I come in peace... To rock out.
After all tho can forget gems like this or him crashing a sort of viking warlords party. In a tank if i do not recall incorrectly. Now i have my ideas and wishes for what to come next and i would like to see a femDoc... But since Moffat have proven to be a very unreliable creator when it comes to female characters i am not sure i actually like to see that happen right now. Not until Moffat is firmly removed from anything that has to do with story, tone or direction. Great at writing scary stories... not so good with lead females.

Anyway back to the rockstar with the phoneboot. I am sure he will be remembered fondly by many and that as per usual the person stepping in to the shoes will have a mighty pair to fill. At least we get another season with the man who dared to wear a pair of sonic sunglasses... (don´t do that again.. EVER) so enjoy and keep hope for the future.

The road ahead...

So as the year slowly get rolling things are looking bleak as fuck... Well on a macro level at least. Personally things are looking fairly good. I have a good job and most of my health.. at least as much as a man of my girth can ask for.. and then some.

But beyond that it is pretty much "start stockpiling cans and bottle water" level. Not only is Trump fucking nuts... Perhaps even literally. The Brits decided to fuck them self and people with opinions that  years ago would call for a permanent vacation home in Argentina are getting platforms all over the place.

So the next couple of years are going to be interesting.

But on the flip side of that, being a geek right now is fucking fabulous, between the Marvel and DC movies/Tv series and every kind of merch one could ever ask for my only sad emotion is that i am not swimming in cash. This is also the year that i decided to do like EVERYONE else and  run a YT channel as a hobby project. I have talked about this earlier but not until now have i actually the PC to let me do it proper. I do not really have a goal, i´l be happy for any views i get and it is mostly for fun (and a way to keep my self motivated to play around in Premier) but since i never tire of my own voice and think that i am pretty awesome this will be a vanity project if i ever saw one. tune in to TAWESS on YT to see what that turns in to.

Beyond that the blog will continue on ever Tuesday and i promise to keep on posting stupid and irrelevant stuff.

Yeah... I am sooo out of stuff to write about today... Sorry...

Until next time, stay safe, be kind and play fair... Bye.

In sickness... We trust. Ghosts we bust.

So this is a bit late.

My bad.

I got some form of bug in the system.

But that is neither here nor there at this point. Lets get on with the show.

So i finally got around to seeing the new Ghostbusters movie. And while i respect that people have a differing opinion. It is a good movie, it is stupid and goofy and all i really want from a popcorn flick. Especially as i never really considered the original one to be anything beyond a good comedy. Maybe it is this freedom from the shackles of nostalgia that seem to have afflicted so many people online, that gave the opportunity to just see it for what it is.

The idea that something have to surpass it´s source in every way. That is a dangerous one. Because it leads to either building way to much hype or becoming a eternal cynic. Of course in this day and age there is good biz to getting the hate-train. In fact i daily find new channels and blogs that thread that path as their sole and only thread. This is not new but it becomes so visible when your entire front page on You Tube is plastered with it. Not to mention how quick people are to ump down the throat of anyone not getting on the train. I have talked before on how the pure naked rage seen online these days is kind of disturbing. I know that most people are like me, people who can look at an issue and say "well i do not agree" without calling for someones head.

For an example, let me use the example of Anita Sarkeesian, I far from agree with all she says. In fact i could argue some points until my head falls off. But not only does i see that someone had to take those lumps, stick their neck out and have it more or less chopped off. Because being polite and conforming would not have worked. So i simply shrug my shoulders, build some more or less logical arguments for the points i disagree and then go on my merry way. Should i ever end up in a conversation with her i know what to do. No way along the way is that to make threats or send someone actual shit in the mail.

I feel this very much apply to the new Ghostbusters movie. Some people more or less competed to be the biggest arsehole on the internet. Of course this did have little impact on the movies numbers and i honestly think that SONY was happy about all the free marking they got. Not only was the movie constantly in the limelight but due to the angry people on the internet. Everybody had to have an opinion. I also hpope they stick to their guns and push the sequel because the universe is actually a good one. Heck in some ways i think it surpass the original.

It is only a bit sad that it´s legacy will always be tainted by the toxic sludge it spawned.

anyway... Enough rambling. Now i am going to down some cold pills and sleep.

Stay safe, be kind and play fair.

A Star Wars story: Rogue One. - No spoilers impressions

So this will be as per usual the more spoiler free version, no major plot point or stuff revealed (beyond what is revealed in the ep 4 crawl). More my own opinions and feelings about the movie in general and it´s place in the greater universe.

It was fucking awesome .. .

In my opinion at least.

It was for all intents and purposes getting the whole wink n nod thing right. Unlike The Force Awakens that more or less pelted you over the head with oh look at this callback to the old movies. Rogue one does it a lot smoother and gentler. The plot, as far as you need it can be read in the opening crawl of ep 4. But it was a very good story and it wraps up nicely. This is important seeing as this movie is a sort of stand-alone movie. You do not like to have sequel or cross-over bait in a stand-alone movie. Sure it has a fairly large cast and more than a few of them end up nothing more than a face on the screen. But the core cast is solid and it is a diverse set of characters. Very nice to see and a welcome nuance from the Force Awakens.
The movie also gets both the visual and the audio bits really right. Beyond some really impressive special effects it also have a good overall visual style. The different planets are distinct and we get some new ones. Like the beach settings as well as some old classics. The audio is as solid as always, things sounds and feels the way it should.
It is also nice to see Disney are using the lessons learned from the Marvel movies and incorporate parts from the broader universe. This also explains why they first wiped the slate clean with the old expanded universe. Being able to pick out the best crumbs of 30+ years of brainstorming must be awesome.
Anyway. I will do a more spoiler type review next week. But my general thoughts are tat you should go see this if you like Star Wars or space fantasy in general.

Just don´t let your expectations choke you.

Cheers.
