LootCrate September unboxing

LootCrate September unboxing

Here we are again, it is that time of the month when I get to dig in to a new batch of nerdy goodness. This month theme of the Crate is galactic. LootCrate had spoiled that the items would be from Star Trek, Star Wars, Aliens and Firefly. They also said that most of them would be special editions in one way or another. So with all that in mind my first reaction was a bit meh actually.

Mostly because I was hoping for a different Star Trek item and I was never a big fan of the Reaction line. But as I dug down things got a lot better. But let us start if with the most obvious item in the box.

That fuzzy orange ball of love is a Tribble, It is from an episode of the original series that I honestly have never seen in its entirety. But to make a long story short these small things mind control people to pick them up and bring them with them, caring for them and if needed protect them. They also breed on a level that would make fungus envious. Now beyond its novelty value it is in essence just a furry ball. But not a bad item per se and in a way a welcomed step away from the usual starship or insignia that make up the most of the Star Trek merchandise these days.

Next up we have a big damm hero, in tiny plastic shape. Ladies and gentlemen Mal from Firefly. The style of this mini is simply adorable and for me this is one of the items that made the box. It might be that everyone get this figure but any way I feel glad that I got it. Being a casual fan of the Firefly series and one of the people who are actually ok with it only being one season, because my god is it good.

Now many many years ago a company by the name of Kenner made a lot of license toys, mostly action figures and playsets. The ReAction line aims to bring these toys back to the front for collectors that want a slice of their childhood back but do not care to mortgage their house to get an original. So it is the original Kenner moulds but recast. Also that is a horrid image but it simply did not photograph very well. Will try to create a light-box for the unboxing. I personally like my action figures big and bold with tons of articulation. But I can see how this line of toys have fans.

Poprocks are simply Poprocks. It is a candy that crackles in your mouth as it melts. This one is apple flavored and very tasty.

Here we have a star Wars fridge magnet… It sticks to metal. It is also made in the style of Asteriods. You can never have to many fridge magnets.

Now for the in my mind star of the show.  See if you can guess what it is…

Yes they are a prop replica of the money used in the firefly series. It is a set of 100 and 500 bills and they are awesome. This is one of these items that symbolize why I get these boxes. Random stuff that I would never buy myself. I am not sure what I will use them for but they will look really nice in my bookcase.

Halo digital comics. Not a big Halo fan myself but they make for a good gift or give away. Would have preferred to have them in physical form but this is a lot easier on the shipping =)

Han Solo in carbonite poster. This is a classic motif that never gets old. It is a bit sad that they folded it as it will take some time to undo the folds but it would have taken up way to much space otherwise. A decent size door-hanger that I think would fit in any geek-cave.

Then there was the monthly magazine and pin, no shirt this month either unfortunately but I have a nagging suspicion that this was due to the cost of shipping the shirt and the bulk it takes up. But I hope we see a shirt next month’s crate.

So to sum this month up it was a bit his and miss. Loved the firefly items and the candy, Poprocks always wins in my book. But the rest was meh… The Tribble will most likely make a home on H´s desk and I will put the Alien figure in the gift pile. Poster was nice and a much better size then the BatMan once from the Villains crate. No shirt was a bit of a bummer too as they are always cool,

´till next time.

To toss a man in a pod… And announcing a giveaway

So with the summer over I once again can look forward to new seasons of most of the pod-casts I follow and since I am back communing to University I have time to listen to them. Not that there is that many of them. But I felt I should give them some time in the spotlight.

I am so happy i am glowing.

First up is the pod that is set to return today. Nördigt

Nördigt is a Swedish pod-cast about geek and nerd culture in general and serves up a weekly dose of reviews, spoilers, interviews and a good amount of humour. The pod Is mainly broken down in to subject by matter. So you have a part of the pod talking about games, then a separate section talking about books or comics and so on. They usually also feature mixed mash-ups between their own theme and themes from shows and games. Pretty funny stuff.

I highly recommend this pod if you can understand Swedish… Or if you don´t listen to it any way form some good “Swedish chef” moments.

My second pick is Svamppod Fyrkant a gaming pod-cast with a strong console leaning. But seeing as it is the crew from Swedish gaming site Svampriket (Mushroom kingdom) that should come as no surprise. This is not a Nintendo podcast despite the name. It follows a loose format of the members talking about what they have recently played and then moving in to news and listener mailbag. While not as tight as Nördigt the focus on gaming makes it less hit or miss subject wise and while I am mostly a PC player myself it is nice to hear about how the other side lives. They also have a few specialty episodes such a a current series of spoilercasts for the mass effect series. Part one covering Mass Effect 1 is out and the sequels are to be covered in episodes released later in the year.
Again I think it is worth listening to and if you happen to have kids they have a family oriented show Svamppod junior.

Now going in to pods that have not been on hiatus but I just have not listen to as much, are two Smodcast shows. Smodcast ofc is the Pod cast Empire of Kevin Smith. Kevin is mostly known as the man who made the Clerks movies.

Jay andSilent Bob get old is actually not about Jay and Silent Bob… It began as an intervention podcast to help Jason Mewes who played Jay in most of Kevin Smith’s movies staying sober and accountable. But have since evolved for the most part in to a slice of life show. I recommend it if nothing else for you to listen to the earliest episodes as Jason tells his story from cradle to very close to the grave and you can follow in the show the transformation of a man. Beyond that the talk is mostly about sex, dick and fart jokes, weed and what is going on in their lives. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea but I find it good easy listening.

Finally we have Fatman on BatMan

This is pretty much nerdvana if you are a fan of DC comics as Kevin Smith sits down with most of the big names in DC who have in one way or another worked on Batman, or people that are in other ways related to the caped crusader. It give you a very personal glimpse in to the mind of people like Denny O´Neil, Grant Morrison, Paul Dini and Mark Hamil. Simply a very fun and at times very incoherent show. But if you like a free lecture by some of the biggest names in comics this is the show to listen to. Not only will you get a understanding for how we came to where we are today but you will also realize that getting in to comics is mostly luck and attitude.

Now when you have something to listen to I will explain a little about the give-away.

First I can say happens because this blog reached its first milestone of 500 views. Now it might now sound like much but I appreciate each and every one and i feel it is worth to celebrate. I will hold these giveaways each time we reach a milestone and when I come across cool stuff. Some will be digital and some will be physical goods. But to not exclude anyone I will do my best to keep these as digital goods.

So come this Friday I will post the giveaway on the contest and giveaways page found to the right
that will run from Friday 18:00 CET to Monday 18:00 CET and by simply doing something to helpme spread the word of my blog you will be entered in to a raffle and could win a special item provided by #LootCrate for use in the game Gauntlet.

So stop by Friday and check out the details and if you feel that this is a dud. Do not worry there will come other chances for other stuff down the road!

LootCrate August Unboxing

So it is time for my second LootCrate and this month we got a well stacked box. Fot those unsure of what a LootCrate is I recommend that you take a peek at my previous unboxing.

Any way this month my box was taken over by Ninja Turtles, just as we had the Joker or Harley going postal on the last crate. Usually the crates come undecorated on the inside so I hope this is something they will do again from time to time.

The first item that catches my eye is the adorable Groot figure, if you do not know who Groot is I applaud you as that must have been fairly tricky to achieve. But if you actually do not know he is a character from the Guardians of the Galaxy movie and is in essence Chewbacca if he was a tree. This little figure is form the Funko POP! Line of bobble-heads and have their very distinct blocky style with black eyes. He also glow in the dark… You will understand if you have seen the movie. Now this is neat because the regular Groot figure does not glow in the dark.

Next up are two TMNT items, a pair of goofy glasses that I dare anyone to go down town with. I got Donatello but it is supposed to be random. Not all that amped up but they will be awesome party glasses.

You simply can not contain this much awesome....

Next up is a chibi-style Raphael Figure from Kidrobot, again this is random as my friend Anton of AntonTycker got a Leonardo, you should by the way check out his blog and enter his competition to be able to win some sweet loot of your own. Yes his blogg is in Swedish but if that is an issue I know google translate can fix that for you. Anyway, I love me silly little action figures and this one is simply adorable and I wish I had the entire line of them.

The Flash(y) shoe attachment…? Why not… Again this goes in to my bag of stuff to put on when I am going to a party or perhaps I will pass them on to someone who appreciates anything that is shiny and sparkles. Neat little item but not really my thing. What I will DO is to recommend that you to keep an eye out for CW´s Arrow “spin-off” The Flash. It looks like it could become a very fun series and if you felt that Arrow had to little super powers in it... This might just hit the spot.

There was also some digital loot.  Not much to say about it but again i know someone who will like the Dr Who stuff.

Also MegaMan car freshener, might keep this around the guest bathroom… never know when it comes in handy.  Not much else to say about it… It apparently has the Cool Rush scent...Fitting.

Almost last and least we have a fridge magnet... Deadpool style. But i guess it is fitting as there is no greater hero then Deadpool.. at least if you ask Deadpool.

Last but not least the regular LootCrate magazine and button.

No T-shirt this time and I was really hoping for some nice hero design but with a double dose of clothes in the last crate I guess I can let ti slide this time... =P Also the crate would have had to be twice as big to be able to fit it in. I am massively pleased with this crate and I know at least one more person that will be squeeeing over this one and that is good as I look really silly squeeeing all by myself.

So that was it for this time. Now head over to Anton tycker and join the competition to win some sweet loot… LOOT I TELL YOU… LOOOOOOOOOT.
