Ok.. Long time no see....

Sorry.

Been a while, has it not.

Can´t say it will get better. Life tends to get in the way. But i´l try.

So why make this post? No idea really. I guess mostly to give my loyal following of Russian crawler bots something to digest. But also to see if i can re-ignite some kind of spark for writing on this blog. But the sad truth is that the current state of reality in my neck of the woods make me want to go all political, and i am not sure i would or even want to deal with the potential backlash... you see i have always picked my fights with brain-dead zealots fairly gingerly. Always been enough shit to get my arse literally and metaphorically handed to me as it is. No need to stick my dick in to a open wall-socket just for shits n giggles. Not my thing. I mean by all means go ahead if that is your thing (the wall-socket part... not the political part... that we all have to deal with at some point or another).

But i digress.

So do i take the plunge and post every-time something tilts me sharply bitchward... Or do i stick to posting the odd geek culture related post if/when the fancy strikes...

I do not know...

Time will tell..

But until next time

Stay safe, be kind and play fair.

bye.

And so i return to my old haunt.

After a year long sojourn i will pick my posting back up here. There will be some slight changes in posting schedule and content. For an example Loot Crate is out and i am not sure what to replace that unboxing section with but i am sure i will come up with something. I will also make a recap of all the Dr Who stuff that has been going on since i left off as well as Arrow and Flash this will lead in to covering the Flarrows of Tomorrow as they pick back up on the 19-21 of January. Not entirely sure how i will structure it but again i´l work something out.

Beyond that it will be the usual slew of rant´s reviews and general musings that i have grown fond of producing.

check back later today for my take on the long awaited Sherlock winter special.

Until then, take care and be safe.

What a week….

This week kicked off with a visit to the cinema. H and I decided to watch Maleficent The retelling or re-imagining of the Disney version of Sleeping Beauty. I am going to pre-face this by saying that there have been many years since I last saw Sleeping Beauty and I don´t think I have actually read the original tale. So I sat down with a somewhat spotty recollection of how the story flowed. In this story we follow Maleficent, for the most part elegantly played by Angelina Jolie as a fey creature that get a very harsh lesson in the cruelty of men. After what is probably the most elegant rape-analogy I have seen in a very long time, and this is actually saying something as Hollywood have a bad habit of treating rape as something minor and at best inconvenient. A vengeful Maleficent come calling on Steffan in a scene that is as chilling as it is magnificent. Well we all know the curse and the following burning of housewares and here is where the story kind of turns of the beaten path. First of the fairies here are about as useful as nipples on a bat suit, they are in fact down right obnoxious and I am surprised that they can get dressed in the morning without perishing. After this the story turns rather standard for a villain redemption story. I am not going to spoil any more is I very much recommend it. It is a gorgeous movie and the story is not bad at all. A tad bit predictable at times to such a degree that H was having fun figuring out the “plot twists” before they happen. But it does not matter because it is still a very good movie and a nice take on a classic tale. If you did not have time to catch it in the cinema I would absolutely tell you to put it on the list for when it is released on disk or stream.
Then we had BioWare and the wonderful world of marketing. You see BW decided to announce that with DA:I they are going full out, all in… And I actually could not bring myself to make a further joke on that. Any way Love is in the air and it is true blue man on man love. With the companion Dorian Dragon Age get it first homosexual companion that you can romance up all you like… If you are a guy of course. This news had barley hit the internet before there was a lot of shit flipped and gaskets blown. Now I can just see in front of me how the marketing department over at EA sit there, a bottle of fine wine ready… Then as social media and it´s older cousins explode they give up a wild war chant and smash the bottle open. Passing it around all night. I am not being cynical and I am not the only one to point this out. I think it is very good that they have Dorian but I can just pray that his writing is good and he becomes a character who just happen to be homosexual rather than his sexuality taken up all the space. But why do it like this… To be very specific about it, having it being the core of what they market about the character. That is marketing cold and simple. I know a few people online who feel that they are being taken advantage of for quick goodwill and a ratings boost. It is also free marketing as everybody is talking about it… he said on his blog…. Hey I did not say it was not working. But I have decided to keep a cautiously optimistic view on this, especially as EA have won several awards for their work on work place equality and to support employees in same sex relationships. So maybe this is a turning point for the monolith, and if EA can change others will soon have to follow suite.

On the lighter side of things, Steam Summer sale ended and the world returned to normal rather than being divided in to 8 hour chunks. Think what you want about it, and I am pretty sure that if you are an indie dev there is no love lost but as a consumer it is a very good time to pick up some slightly older games or that DLC you wanted but could not really justify. Personally I picked up the “new” Tomb Raider and Mortal Kombat 9, a game I would never pay full price for but it is fun to mess around in form time to time. I never really understood this years “competition” and actually did never finish any badges. But hey there is always next year.

I am going to round this up with a short tip of my hat to Russia and Ukraine… the later for actually training spy dolphins… The former for having the brassballs to just steal them. Yes, that was the headline… Russia stole Ukraine’s spy dolphins and they want them back, the haul also included demolition seals, some ninja sea lions and at one point the compound held a killer Beluga whale. There are still no confirmation if the penguins from the Madagascar movies trained at the base but it would make sense. So I guess this is Putins first bid to become a Bond villain. We all get nostalgic from time to time.

Any way that was the insanity for this week…

For the love of all…

This is a rant… It is not coherent and have been edited to take out the most rabid parts as they served no purpose other than me venting with foam at the corners of my mouth..

So I really hate it when people tell me what is and is not right based on their personal beliefs and hold them up as absolute truths… So now I am going to tell you what is right or wrong based on my personal beliefs and hold them up as absolute truths….

Ok that was perhaps pushing it a bit far for the sake of making the point clear, but I just like to point out that I am well aware of how silly it is to condemn someone’s way of viewing the world just because it does not meet my own. You see I do not think that there are any people who are inherently evil, there are people who do evil things or push suffering upon others but I do not believe that they wake up each morning, twirling their moustache and scheme how to make the rest of the world a worse place. In fact most of them I am sure have the utter most intention to make the world a better place. They just go about it a very ass backwards way. Now that is not the same as me giving them a free reign or wave them off as “silly evil people”. But I just want to explain the background to why I make the next statement.
I do not think people who try to restrict how others love are evil.
I just think the way they look at the world is completely batshit, off the wall fucked up beyond a point where it is dignified with a sane and reasonable. You would think that in a society where borders are moving and we are slowly but surely growing out of our shoes people loving each other would be a good thing. I personally think my point of view will be the one that wins in the end and what we know today as hetero, homo, bi, mono and poly will dissolve. Why… Well for one I hope that we will be going back to a community where more focus is put on family no matter how said family is constituted and that people can let go of the fear that stigmatizes so much of how we look at love and sex. We are no longer in a position where we need to regulate and formalize reproduction in order to save the population. We have other motivators for that now that are way more efficient. Now fear is difficult to get rid of, I sure know and I also know that I am a very small insignificant person but it literally drives me crazy because it is the anti-thesis of logic behavior. At least that is how I feel about it. Now I don´t care if, and this is my very personal opinion and I do not demand that you should agree with me but be aware that disagreeing will color our future interactions.
If you think you have some reason to judge or disapprove how humans love each other, how people of their free will shape their family or who they call their loved ones YOU ARE WRONG. You are wrong and you pretty much fail as a human being. I dare you to present a compelling argument… Or even a argument to begin with. But let me preempt a few…

My faith says: Yeah I am pretty sure your faith says a lot of stuff that is not applicable to a modern society.
My political stance says: Really… If above did not win any ground this is even more stupid.
My grandma/grandpa/parents said: I am sure they did… So why be as narrow-minded as they are.
I am afraid: Well I can understand that. But fear is to be conquered.
I do not want to (insert object in to orifice): I am not saying you should go on a fuck-a-ton around the world and bed one of each gender and nationality in a weird recreation of the Arc.  Just that you ask you self... Why do I feel this is wrong?

So while I cannot stop you from feeling discomfort at the idea of anything outside of “man+wife+2.5 kids, missionary three times a week and from the behind on Saturdays.” I am pretty sure you felt some discomfort or confusion the first time you had sex too… and that turned out pretty good in the end too now did it not. So the next time you see something that seems unusual to you or maybe even strange, as long as nobody is hurting someone else (without their consent, pain after all is pleasure if done right.) just nod your head and think to yourself… If is Wednesday.

Agree or disagree I welcome anyone who can put forward a logic reason why restrictions on love between consenting people… I care not for people who try to explain why there are such restrictions today… I have a fairly good idea of that.

Midsummer you say…. I´l drink to that.

Few traditional celebrations are so wrapped up in mystery and misconceptions as the Swedish midsummer celebrations, and while it is most definitely a pre-Christian ritual it has by now turned in to something that is as close to holy as we have. From the traditional feast (and I do mean traditional, it is the same for every celebration, be it Easter, Christmas or… well… anyone.) to the dancing and obligatory consumption of flavored spirits. Oh and let´s not forget the maypole, that big leafy and somewhat dick shaped thing we show in to the earth. Now if we did that back in late april early may the whole “impregnating the earth” thing would make more sense, but hey if it get people to love each other, and make love to each other with a bit more passion on this very day people can believe whatever they want. I am a strong advocate for love, no matter what shape or form it comes in as long as it is consensual. Now since it is a celebration and I live here in Sweden we all know what comes next… .. . People, I am not going to tell you not to drink. That is up to you and I trust you are an adult capable of making your own decisions. But what I do ask is that you take a few minutes to reflect on how your future actions might affect others and what your intentions are. Because even if you have no problem with people being drunk of their face and breaking every social code our society ever invented others might now. So adapt your alcohol consumption to your company… Or if that cannot be achieved, you company to your consumption.
Any way beyond that I really enjoy midsummer as it have this very free spirit and is not burdened with the stigma of death and angst that most other celebrations we have are. It is just life, pure and simple. Now I have of course the singular luck of coming from a well-adjusted home and thus have no real traumas connected to midsummer but I know that not everyone is as lucky. But if you stand barefoot on a patch of grass, with the warm summer evening slowly darkening and just take a few deep breaths it is not hard to understand why this day is by many considered to be just a little bit magical.

So enjoy your herring and your potatoes, strawberries and cream and for the heck of it enjoy your drink too. Simply… Enjoy.

This is Tomas and that was all for this time.
